What is Kkogdu?

Like a home, the dead needed people(or animal) to take care of them, to guide them through the afterlife. Kkogdu is(are) the guide.

Guiding
Kkogdu serve as guides for the deceased on their journey to the afterlife.

Guarding
Kkogdu also functions as protectors, warding off evil spirits and ensuring the safety of the deceased.

Entertaining
Kkogdu alleviate the sadness and lifts the spirits of the deceased through performances and antics.

Attending
To ensure the deceased are not uncomfortable, attendant Kkogdu provides care and service.

Lastly, the Kkogdu stands alongside the deceased as an Observer.

Having watched over the deceased throughout its life, the Kkogdu unravels a long thread of memories on the deceased’s final path.

Synopsis
I am a ghost died outside my home.
Kkogdu are having my funeral.

Note
Kkogdu are having my funeral.
They build my home(Sangyeo), and look back the family history.

Through my funeral, I want to hand the comfort to our family and myself.
Like a bowl of water my grandmother put on the shrine she prayed on, the blanket my grandmother used to made late night.
one stitch for the peace and health of the family, one stitch for sorrow.

SANGYEO (Funeral bier)
Sangyeo is a temporary home(or gate) for the dead before they leave their living home and reach the another world.
Kkogdu (Puppet, Marionet)
Like a home, the dead needed people(or animal) to take care of them, to guide them through the afterlife.
Kkogdu is(are) the guide.
Now, they play out family dramas during the ceremony.
ME

Tiger and Dog.
They are eating humans and adored by humans.
The village.
